Lafayette Avenue near 6th Avenue
Because Lafayette Ave is the original Highway 41 (now called "Old 41"), State and City both hit this area very hard. Indiana State University cops even get in on the act. (Contrary to belief, college cops DO have the abilty to ticket and arrest off campus – and they love to!) There are quite a few bars along Lafayette, from Locust Street clear through North Terre Haute. Many of the bar owners have to call the police stations to have parked cop cars removed from the block. (It is illegal for police to ‘target’ bars, but they try.) One night I saw 5 cars pulled over within 3 blocks of each other, all at the same time, in the 12 Points area near Maple Avenue. There were even 2 police cars on one of the cars. That makes 6 cop cars cruising in the area. I’d definately suggest having a designated driver(!), and watching the traffic lights and your speed down that 6 mile strip of Lafayette.
