Roosevelt Blvd (US 17) between Edgewood Ave and NAS JAX

This entire strip is known to local LEOs as a "cherry patch"; they can meet the day’s quota very quickly. Navy base personnel, college students going to class, and large commuter volumes North and South at rush hour each day. Risk of a ticket has greatly increased since the City of Jacksonville announced a $22 million budget shortfall due to (are you ready?) huge cost of paying police and firefighter pensions! (Police are under "unofficial" orders to generate as many fines as possible to maximize City revenues). Judges rubber-stamp citations and add hefty court costs to finance the palatial new courthouse. Usual result for disputing a ticket is to increase your costs dramatically. They want your money, and are not interested "justice" or "safety" .

Comments:
This stretch of road has been a death trap to many. There are no cameras to monitor the flow of traffic. Commuters run red lights and speed well beyond the posted safe speeds. 70 to 90 mph in 45 limit. Drag racing through traffic. Road rage, show-offs, drunk disorderly or just plain stupidity. An innocent man was killed right in front of his wife because of reckless driving, speeding, racing on a public road. He flipped the car he was driving by lossing control of the speeding car hitting the median. Airborn he cracked onto the victims car going the opposite direction being followed by his wife. Speed traps yes! But we need to take care not to become so aggressive during our commute.
