Route 49
On route 49 in Marcy between the cities of Utica and Rome is a favorite of NY State trooopers (their barracks is right at the start of Rt 49) or Oneida Co. Sheriffs. They usually sit on the side of the road anywhere along the road, especially in the entrance ramp on the east bound side near the mohawk river crossing. The prevailing traffic is usually 60-70 mph, but speed limits are posted at 55 on a straight flat open road with two lanes each way with a 20 foot wide median between them. It is very common to see at least one patrol car on the road on either side or in the median every day. Also, DON’T get stopped there. The town court judge for Marcy LOVES speeders as a source of revenue, and will hardly plea bargain for anything.
