Rte 301
Speed drops abruptly from 60 to 35. Cop said I was doing 60, but i was slowing down, and probably doing 50 at most, and travelling at same speed as other cars. Ticket was $240 + $20 to pay on-line by credit card!! Total scam.

Sorry but, you are wrong about the speed droping "abruptly" from 60 - 35, there are signs on the south bound side "warning" that the speed limit IS DROPPING to 45 around the flea market, then back upto 55, then back down to 35 in town. I drive a semi and when approaching this town turn the cruise control off, and by the time I get to the drop, I'm running the speed limit or below. I have driven throught this stretch of US 301 off and on for 30 some odd years and have NEVER! been stopped, I do drive at the limit or a little below when in this town. Just wanted to set the record straight. An 45 means "45" not 48 not 50.
I was stopped by a cop affectionately known as Waldo Willie. I was traveling from Jacksonville to Gainesville. I was moving with the traffic and was singled out. I am sure that they can identify rental vehicles. I would have fought the ticket, but read on the back of the ticket that if I fought it and lost, it would cost me $500. I believe that this is true of all Florida tickets. Anyone who is not familiar with this town is dead meat.
The speed limits dropping signs are not very far past the Oasis Lounge on 301. Anyone who travels 301 through Waldo on a daily basis knows for a fact that there is a billboard 2 3/4 miles BEFORE that warns speed trap ahead. There are also signs before the Waldo Farmer's Flea Market that said speed strictly enforced. You have ample amount of time to slow down before you hit the 45 mph area.
I always put my cruise control on in Waldo and any other speed trap I know about. Usually a mile or two below the posted speed at that.
Just remember Waldo has about 6-7 cop cars, SUV's and trucks serving as their fleet.
