Definately a trap because the speed limit goes from 70mph down to 45 mph in about a third of a mile length. So one has to really apply the brakes. Police also have a definate attitude in that town and are always in waiting because they know themselves it is a TRAP. They will say that the speed limits are set by the state, but the reality is that the local elected officials request said speed limits and the state usually will agree unless challenged by a number of citizens, which of course usually does not happen!
was driving hwy 72 to 281 in Three Rivers. Stopped at red light. Light turned green and was following car in front of me. Less than one block from light car in front turned off 281(main street thru 3 rivers) to right and I continued straight. Noticed squad car turn on flashing lights and immediately looked at my speedometer which read between 35 and 40. Didn't think much of it until squad car pulled in behind me. Stopped and then pulled around corner at officers orders. He walked up to my window and informed me I was traveling 55 MPH. Unbelievable. Was fined $216.00 for 20 miles over limit. Speed trap? Absolutely. Avoid three Rivers Texas if at all possible. Also end of month and apparently quotas were not yet met.
My son is forced to drive through Three Rivers daily. In the past 4 months: 1 speeding ticket. 1 past due vehicle inspection sticker citation, and 2 window tint too dark citations. All from the same cop. The first two are legit but the window tint is factory and has passed inspection many times. This is just a scam to generate revenue from out-of-towners.
