State Highway 299
Between Whiskytown and French Gulch, and probably all the way to Weaverville, the Highway Patrol are always around, altho I have not seen them late at night, probably becuase they don’t feel safe getting out of their vehicles in this remote area where there are few cars and no lights.
I have been ticketed twice in one year, neither time trying to speed. I had 4 cars on my tail this last time and only I got the ticket of course.
Because of all the ups and down, it is hard to stay at the posted 55 mph. Many parts of the road do lend itself to 60-65, which is what most drivers do.
I have yet to pull out onto 299 at French Gulch, with NO cars in sight, stay at 55, and not have cars behind me and passing me before I get to the Whiskeytown turnoff. Ticket is $118.00 2/2006.
