State Highway 377 near State Highway 114
The Town of Marshall Creek, Texas is a collection of just over 100 manufactured homes located north of Roanoke, Texas. Yes…it’s a TRAILER PARK. The roads are gravel and the street signs are hand painted. Although the closest trailer to State Highway 377 is nearly a half mile away, they have gerrymandered along a nearby waterway and claimed an approximately 1.5 mile section of highway 377 between Highway 114 and Cross Timbers Road. I was cited in 1998 by an officer who said I was driving 68 mph in a 65 mph zone.
When I went to pay my ticket ($155!) there were THREE police vehicles at the Marshall Creek City Hall, a 1,200 square foot wooden structure which was almost the only building built on site. The police actually had to leave the trailer park and drive through the city of Roanoke to get to the section of highway 377 they have claimed and on which they issue citations.
Recently (2002) they were sued because of expired police certifications and had to return a great deal of traffic revenues. As a result the city has declared bankruptcy and may, pending a vote in November of 2007, be incorporated into Roanoke. The Marshall Creek signs are still up along highway 377 though, so be careful!
