State Highway 59:
Upon entering the small McDonald County municipality of Lanagan, Mo.(population: 411) from the north out of Anderson, Mo., , the posted speed limit of 45 mph abruptly changes to 35 mph. The town has 1 small convenience store and a bank and one or two other small businesses, as well as a municipal court where you will go to pay your ticket fine in person on a court-appointed date. The town is so small you can practically spit from one end of the town to the other. After I was clocked at 45 mph in the 35 mph zone, I was ticketed(a very heavy fine for 10 mph over the limit) and noticed upon leaving the town after being ticketed that the same policeman was already set up doing radar to catch the next person. Word of Warning: Watch your speed closely as you enter this town and keep it below the posted speed limit and watch for abrupt speed limit changes, especially if you are entering the city from Highway 59 North.
I grew up ! mile from this town they have been ripping people off here since the 80's. Some times they will post a police radar on each end of town at the same time. Lanagan pop. 410 is such a crime mecca that it requires 2 full time policemen.
In May 2012 The police chief and deputy have been indicted by a grand jury for forgery and violations of Mack's creek law, a law meant to prevent towns raising revenue from traffic stops.
Most people in this town live below the poverty line, most of the politicians are on welfare and food stamps.Best to drive through Lanagan at 20mph lest the 1 pedestrian with in 20 miles jumps in front of your bumper
