I HATE Oakland! It is Definitely a speed trap town. Whats worse... you don't even have to be speeding to get a ticket. I've always known its a speed trap, and have always obeyed the speed limits. That didn't stop them from somehow citing me for doing 57 in a 45 (an outright LIE). But when its your word against an officers.. you are screwed. Its a nice scam they've got going. They'll tell you if you show up to court and pay the (then) $85 court costs and plead guilty.. it doesn't go on your record. I often drive around Oakland to just to avoid their rogue violations. When you see the "Welcome to Oakland" sign, you'll note there is a sign dangling by chains underneath that says "debt free town". (no kidding) That should give you a hint as to what this town is all about. Its a very intimidating place. The gas is expensive, and the cops seem to be particularly hard on minorities. Be on your best behavior, Do LESS than the speed limit, and PRAY they'll leave you alone. Its the worst speed trap in all of Tennessee. I feel for you if you don't have Fayette County tags. FWIW.... the next towns of Somerville and Whiteville are pretty unreasonable too. Welcome to the Buford Pusser Highway!
