Racine County Sheriff Deputies will follow suspected speeders through town southbound. The speed limit increases to 55 mph approximately 1.3 miles north of the county line. However, the deputy will follow you into Kenosha County if you speed up, and stop you for speeding in town. Got caught in this particular trap. I was clocked at 53 in the 55 zone and got pulled over as soon as I crossed the county line into Kenosha County. Ticket had the wrong location, wrong direction of travel, wrong registration expiration year, and the math was wrong (said I was doing 17 over the 35 limit - 53 minus 35 is 18 the last time I took higher math). Hired a lawyer. Racine county prosecutor said as long as the intent of the ticket was clear, the officer could make any number of technical mistakes on the ticket and it was still valid. When I insisted on a jury trial, he dealt the ticket down to defective speedometer worth 4 point and $285. My lawyer advised me to take it since "in Racine County, this is a sweet deal because they NEVER deal down." Later, I registered a complaint with the Racine County Sheriff and after 9 months, got a letter acknowledging that there were "irregularities surrounding the citation, but we are sure the officer had no malice of intent." In other words, they got caught. Based on the letter, I asked to have the conviction overturned and was told that there are no appeal rights on traffic tickets.
