State Highway NY 106 near Intersection of Muttontown-Eastwoods Road Crossing
NY 106 is a four lane (2 in each direction) divided highway, grassy median, shoulder with woods on both sides. It spans two incorporated villages, that of Old Brookville (south of Muttontown-Eastwoods Road) and Muttontown (north of that intersection). Each of these incorporated villages have their own local police departments and their own Village Court, separate from Nassau County PD. Police cars sit off the shoulder, often obstructed by the wooded landscape, and garner revenue for the Village. While the speed limit is 55, they often have "Stop Speeding" campaigns where it appears to be a random selection, or rather, there is some profiling – doing 50 – 55 at 4:50PM in the afternoon with moderate to heavy traffic, I was pulled over for 71 in a 55, driving my daughter’s red Acura. I was in the right lane, there were numerous other cars around me, but I got picked and the police officer said, it’s a Stop Speeding Campaign, so everyone I stop has to get a ticket. Supposedly, I was clocked with laser, or maybe it was the car passing me, but I was definitely in the sporty car.
