State Route 17
A VA State trooper patrols VA Rt 17 15 miles to the north and 15 miles to the south of Saluda, VA. Posted speed limit is 50. The 4-lane divided road is sparsely traveled and contoured to easily accommodate 60-65. Every member of my family has gotten a ticket here, including my mother on Christmas Eve.

Back in the 50's while in the US Navy stationed at Norfolk US 17 was a two lane highway running thru Saluda. It was notorious for its speed taps and officers. I was one who got caught on a Friday evening doing 56 {according to the officer} in a 50MPH zone. This was a RADAR trap and I knew it was there. I was not speeding. The fine was 28 dollars if I remember correctly. . I did not have the money. I was put in Jail for the night and the next AM {Saturday} I went to traffic court. I had to hock my watch to get out of jail. The Saluda jail had decent food for the two meals I was given.
