State Route 422

Campbell, OhioJun 07, 20061 Comments

Heading east out of Youngstown through the town of Campbell on Route 422 towards the PA line, I’ve encountered some of the most ridiculous and exploitive enforcement I’ve seen this side of New Rome! The road is a 4-lane highway, however the speed limit is a completely unrealistic 35 mph. Late one night, I was acting as a designated driver, taking some intoxicated friends back over to PA, when I went over a hill on 422 and encountered 2 Campbell police cruisers sitting in a parking lot facing opposite directions. They had their radar guns blazing and were obviously targeting both east and west bound lanes as people came over the hill in very light night traffic. I was immediately pulled over and told that I had been doing 52 in a 35, which I HIGHLY doubt was the case at all, as I had barely tapped the accelerator.
The officer didn’t seem to care that I was acting as a DD, or was from out of state (in fact, I’ll bet this made him even MORE inclined to cite me), and quickly wrote me a ticket for $113.
I called the court the following week and attempted to have the initial hearing date moved, since I knew that I wouldn’t be in this part of the country on the court date the officer assigned. However, the lady that I spoke with would not let the date budge as though it was carved in stone. As a result, I had no choice but to pay the ticket in full.

Comments:
I live right on 422 in this area. The speed limit in Youngstown/Campbell is 35 and it is only two lanes. But, when you enter Coitsville, it turns to four lanes and 55mph. I am not saying that this is not a speed trap, it definatly is, I am just clearifying the post.
