U.S. 281 at the city limit

Hico, TexasSep 06, 20021 Comments

If you are coming in from the south of town, beware of the speed limits that change from 70 to 55 to 45 within a short distance. The city lies in a valley, and the city limits start at the bottom of a hill where a police officer is constantly perched, ready to zap motorists who are unable to slow down on the downhill.

Comments:
This city as a whole is very poorly marked regarding traffic restriction and also routes to be taken through the city. Try to find your way to Hiway 220 when entering from the South into Hico on US 281. Malice of forethought? Maybe so. Don't look at a map. You may miss the very limited number of signs which restrict speed. I cannot believe a community would not forewarn of a school zone as in one case cited here. Evident, indeed, that revenue trumps safety in this locale.
