US Highway 23 near Ninth Street
Speed limit drops from 45 to 30 mph on the main thoroughfare through this small town in Northern Michigan. There are three police agencies who "cherry pick" along US-23 through Tawas City and East Tawas — Michigan State Police; Iosco County Sheriff; and, Tawas City Police

The speed limit actually drops gradually over approximately 1/2 mile. It changes from 45 to 35 at Bay Dr then it changes from 35 to 30 in the business district starting near Mitch's Pizza. There are three police department offices located in the Tawas City and East Tawas City limits. However, until recently there has been no road patrol by the Sheriff Department and the State Police generally are out of the Cities handling the workload for the rest of the County. I would challenge anyone to cite a traffic stop in that area made by the Sheriff Department in recent years. I am curious to know what the definition of "cherry picking" is.
