Memphis, Tennessee Speed Traps
Interstate 40
They sit in the median where you enter Shelby County over the hill.
Summer Avenue near Bingham Avenue
Traveling west on Summer you must cross a bridge after passing Bingham. As you accelerate up the bridge and reach the top you must slow down before the crest because officers are usually at the bottom and they will clock you before you can begin your descent.
Kirby Parkway near Humphreys Boulevard
Speed limit is "35", while same street a few blocks south has a "45" speed limit. Cops love to park in side streets and jump out with a radar gun and a big "gotcha" on their face. They only work in nice weather, and usually ply their trade about once a month.
Interstate 385 near Winchester Street
When traveling Westbound on Bill Morris/I-385 towards Riverdale the speed limit changes from 65 to 55. There are usually Marked cars with radar staged with Motorcycle and other police cars pulling you over. Please take caution to reduce your speed immediately to 55mph.
Bill Morris Parkway near Winchester Crossing
The 385 aka Bill Morris Parkway or Noncahnna has a perfect spot where the Memphis Police can pick off motorists. The speed limit going west leading up to Winchester is 65 and posted as such just before turning to 55 at the city limits. During am rush hour an officer will sit on the opposite direction median with a radar/laser gun and relay speeds and descriptions to up to 10 officers that run people down for speeding. This can happen going both west and east in that location.
