Riverside Drive near Close to Texaco Station

Memphis, TennesseeJul 09, 20060 Comments

If you are heading into downtown Memphis, be careful of the transition from Interstate 55 to Riverside Drive. The speed limit drastically drops in a very short distance from the speed limit of Interstate 55 to a much slower Riverside Drive speed limit.

A radar unit is set up close to the Texaco station (located on the east side of Riverside Drive) ready to cite you. Memphis is having tremendous financial problems and this appears to be quite lucrative. They were even ticketing people for not wearing seatbelts (walking officers posted at intersections downtown) during "Memphis in May". A very nice touch to "Welcome to Memphis".

Perkins Street near Near Flamingo

Memphis, TennesseeJul 09, 20060 Comments

They hide in the little side streets along Perkins north of Quince. You cannot speed there! Usually there are a couple of them – one to shoot radar and one to write the tickets. Often they’re on motorcycles. No way to see them until it’s too late. I’ve been pulled over there more than once.

Poplar Street near Highland Street

Memphis, TennesseeJun 17, 20060 Comments

A long tree lined street where traffic usually goes to 50 MPH but is posted at 40 MPH. Police hide their motorcycles on side streets and aim radar from behind trees.

US Highway 64 near Up to the Fayette Co. line

Memphis, TennesseeMay 05, 20060 Comments

Now that Memphis has annexed Hwy.64 through all of Shelby Co. enforcement of the 55 mph speed limit has doubled. Most of this hiway is rural and 55 mph is a little low for this four lane road. BUT Memphis PD has found a cash cow for a city that is having alot of finacial problems.

Neely Road near Southill Avenue

Memphis, TennesseeMar 27, 20060 Comments

Memphis City Police are usually "clocking" at this intersection at all times of day. The speed limit is 35 mph but they have been known to stop drivers doing 40 mph. They are usually at many other intersection up and down this two – three mile stretch of road…so watch out!
