Brownfield, Texas Speed Traps
State Highway 62
All throughout the city of Brownfield the speed limit is low and the cops like to post up in inconspicuous spots. Northeast bound traffic goes down a hill upon entering town and the speed limit drops from 50 to 40 at the bottom of the hill. Also, the speed limit signs in this area don’t match up- for example, one direction will be 30 and the other 35. These cops love to stop people for just about anything, so make sure all of your lights are working! They also have a tendency to interrogate you about why you’re traveling.
US 62/385 Between SW city limit and TX Hwy 303
Texas DPS constantly patrols this area in both directions. They will sit in and near intersections and turn arounds. I was pulled over at approx. 8:00 PM for 71 in a 65 (night speed limit). I was traveling at 68 w/ cruise on, so they embellish their radar readings slightly. I live in a town 55 miles southwest of Brownfield and I constantly hear complaints from my neighbors about this speed trap! They do allow any margin for error.
