Cross Plains, Texas Speed Traps

speed limit is 30 mph in town rapidly increases to 45 then 55 and 75 about a mile north of town they try to nail you just before the 45 sign. Probably have never written a warning ticket

Highway 206 coming into Cross Plains from the north, drops from 70 mph to 30 mph in a very short distance. I missed the first 30 mph sign and when I saw the second one I braked hard to reduce my speed. The policeman was just down the road and pulled me over for doing 55 mph in a 30 mph zone. He rejected my explanation and ironically 55 mph is right where they will not allow defensive driving school. If you don’t think there’s something fishy here you are nuts. Feel I’ve been had.

Definitely a speed trap and they do prey on out of towners passing through. I also believe the cop radar’s beyond the 30mph sign. There is a 15mph drop in the speed limit that is almost impossible to see and he is around the curve. When I questioned this, he actually said “where I sit” is in the 30mph. Is this his office….”where I sit”? The fines are outrageous and I will be contributing to their salaries. So much for “serve and protect”…….this town and their cop should be ashamed.

I entered the city on hwy 7 from the south. After passing the only stop sign in town, I saw a city police car in front of me going the speed limit of 35. I did the same. He pulled off and stopped near a school on the right. I watched him as I continued at 35. Down the road near the change to 45, he started after me with flashing lights on. Told me I had gone through a school zone with its yellow light flashing limit of 20 mph. This was at 11 am. I didn’t go back to see if light was flashing and if his car blocked view of yellow light, but I think it was entrapment of out of town vehicles and he had found a good way to distract motorist with his car. I think this is his normal routine.
