Dilley, Texas Speed Traps
FM 117 passing between Dilley HS and Dilley Admin. bldg.
The speed limit on this stretch of road is 35 mph unless school zone times are in effect (school zone limit is 20 mph). City police aggressively do radar patrol in this area, even when school zone times are not in effect. I was stopped by city police in this area around 8 pm in February 2017 when the road had almost no traffic. Police cited me for going 41 in a 35 zone (6 mph over posted), and his reason was that the area is typically a school zone.
As this was the lowest speed difference that I have ever been ticketed for and at a time when traffic was hardly existent, I couldn’t help but be surprised that I didn’t get a warning. This makes me believe that I fell into a speed trap. Even my colleagues in Dilley thought it was ridiculous that I got a ticket for such a small speed difference, and that small speed difference ended up costing me over $177.00.
