Florence, Texas Speed Traps
Apox 2 miles outside of Florence (Killeen side)
Traveling from Killeen Tx to Florence on Hwy 195. The speed limit is 70 MPH. At the Williamson County line it increases to 75 MPH for 1.1 mile and then suddenly drops to 65 to 55 in less that .2 (2000 ft). There you wil find a Williamson County Deputy running radar. He or another one is there 24/7. Always writing tickets. This is designated a “construction zone” so the fines are doubled. I have written Governor Perry’s office with no reply. You HAVE to brake heavily to comply with the law. This is a SPEED TRAP!!!!!
Highway 195 (Patterson Ave.)
Police will sit across from the Mexican food resturant and run radar in both directions. They will stop you for no front license plate and no license plate light. They only wrote me a warning. The cops tend to be a little hardnosed, but they seem to be fair. They run radar heavily in the school zones and have 0 tolerance.
State Highway 195
Tickets are the main revenue for this town of <1000 residents. Their favorite trick is to catch you about ten feet from the city limits as you are leaving town. (This way they know you are not a resident and are fairgame) Accelerate a little too soon and they chase you out on to the highway.
HWY 195
In this very small town the speed limit drops from 70MPH to 45MPH and is strictly enforced. The main cause of this is that THE police officer is searching for DWI’s going from Austin to Fort Hood. This is also the most Lethal road in Texas. Best Bet is to take 190 instead of 195, and make it from Austin to Killeen alive and with no tickets.
