This pastoral 4 lane, divided hwy-like road has a posted speed limit of 40 mph and that is enforced with ticket after ticket written by local law officers.
Hwy 16 on the Kerrville side
The posted speed limit is 55 mph and does not increase to 70 mph until past the entrance to Lady Bird Park. Both state and local police are quick to ticket motorists who succumb to the temptation to hit 70 mph because the city of Fredericksburg is behind them and the view is of open countryside. This portion of Hwy 16 is ticketed in Both directions. Motorists coming from Kerrville need to be aware of the speed limit change to 55 mph from 70 mph.

Just before the speed limit changes from 70 to 80; In my case they used a compact pickup truck (blue at this time) to clock me (79 in a 70). The officer in the pickup radios ahead to a marked patrol car waiting out of sight around a curve.

The ticket was issued as a result of radar at 7 a. m. when there was no traffic at all. Given that the vehicle had just left a traffic signal, the stated rate of speed was impossible. Several discrepancies noted on the ticket– the officer reported heavy traffic and 7 p.m.
