Melissa, Texas Speed Traps
State Highway 75 near Melissa Road
Melissa police use this as a big speed trap (as does the County Sheriff’s department occasionally). They will have a cruiser (no bikes yet) on the entrance ramp from Melissa Rd. onto Hwy 75 South. Since the entrance ramp is a large hill and downhill ramp design, you usually can’t see them unless you know what to look for. They will wait until you pass and then run you down. Tips to avoid this trap is to pay close attention to the bridge ahead as soon as you cross into Melissa on 75 South. If the sheriff is posting, you can see the lights of the cruiser peeking up above the bridge. If the Melissa police are posting, you can look to your right (directly after crossing under Melissa Rd) and check to see if a cruiser is sitting there…and if so, brake quickly.
