Palestine, Texas Speed Traps
U.S. 287, past County Rd. 499
A DPS state trooper will be out there early Sunday morning, around 7:20 a.m., and the nearest place available to pull over is a narrow driveway entrance. The trooper will not even back up quickly once finishing his revenue transaction so that you can avoid having to drive through the ditch to exit the road. After taking at least 2-3 minutes to turn around and resume operations, you’ll finally be able to safely maneuver.
US 79 South through Palestine, TX
A construction zone (current as of 2/10/13) that appears to be a lengthy project occupies about 3 miles of road that is normally 55-60 mph. Throught the zone, it’s 45. A DPS trooper will lie in wait and nail the first driver doing 55-65 before they have a chance to slow down. With the first driver stopped, he will rely on his back radar and catch the next driver before he’s done writing the first ticket. He will motion you off the road behind his unit and then have you pull forward in front for the next ticket. In this fashion, the trooper will operate a small ticket writing assembly line, especially at the end of the month when he’s low on tickets.
