Runaway Bay, Texas Speed Traps

Never actually got a ticket in Runaway Bay but that’s because when I go through there they usually have someone else pulled over. Was eating in Jacksboro at Village Kitchen and started talking to a state trooper who was there. In the course of our conversation he said that all the Runaway Bay police were good at was writing tickets.

Speed drops from 70 to 55 without warning. Trees hide town, looks like country. Local (1) cop hides over hill.

FYI, recently, the speed limit sign as you come into Runaway Bay from Jacksboro, was move about 100 yards west of where it use to be. It was at the first entrance to neighborhoods (across from the park and swimming pool).

I didn’t experience the trap – I noticed that a nationally-known company had routed me going from Jacksboro to Decatur on a lesser road than 380, which was actually a longer route, and when I asked why, was told that Runaway Bay is a well-known speed trap.

In all my years affiliated with this organization, I have only seen them do that once before. The town of Runaway Bay might want to consider the implications of being known for this.

As you enter Runaway Bay from the East on US 380, the speed is reduced from 70MPH to 55MPH at the city limits sign. The catch is after you have left the town you will find yourself well beyond any form of civilization, structures or interchanges. Then a city limits sign and resumption of 70MPH. The local municipal cops terrorize motorists in this vacant area within the city limits, yet in the middle of nowhere.
