San Marcos, Texas Speed Traps
Aquarena Springs Drive near Bobcat Stadium
Officers from Hays County, DPS, San Marcos, and Texas State University sit in the parking lots along Aquarena Springs Drive and just wait to give you a ticket. The speed lowers from 45 to 35 and is poorly marked near the railroad tracks. They are ruthless and will write you for 5 over every time. They will also “find”” other things to add to the ticket to make more money off of you.”

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office will occassionally have a patrol car or one to two motorcycle officers setting up in driveways, just behind trees and brush on this stretch of road. The speed limt is 30 MPH, which I can imagine is due to a couple homes with driveways right off the road. When the officers set these traps, they are normally during the first few days of the month for several days in a row. Peak time is at 8:00AM CST. I have gotten by with 7 MPH over the speed limit.
I 35 (Construction Zone)
Construction Zone (55)which runs for miles starting inside the City… No reason for slow-down. Big Money maker for area officers. Traffic continues at 70 MPH due to common sense but you get tagged frequently.
Martindale, between San Marcos and Lufkin
Change speed signs from time to time to catch you off guard. Have even been known to put up “Men Working”” signs so fines can be doubled. State made them cease. This is as blatent trap as you will ever find. Recommend stay considerably uner posted speed limit.”
