Abingdon, Virginia Speed Traps
Exit 10 overhead
Sheriff’s Deputies stand atop Exit 22 bridge and uses laser. Radios speed to as many as 6-10 waiting chase cars. Can be used on North and South bound sides.
Hillman Hwy
A town officer radars from a church parking lot across from Anderson Trailer Park, at least 4 days a week.
Route 11 @ n. end of town
Not exactly a speed trap – they nab you for allegedly blowing through a red light, targeting out of state tags. Your word against his that it wasn’t red.
Route 58 Eastbound, 5 miles from Abbington
Local Barney Fife’s hide in the trees at the bottom of a long hill (some say mountain), where cruise controls are over-run. The don’t stop the locals, but depend on tourists who are unaware of their hiding places. For Washington County, which depends on the tourist trade for revenue, it seems to be a crying shame to welcome visitors by giving them tickets instead of hospitality. Never will I spend another penny in this county, as I did regularly before being pulled.
North on Wyndale Rd. when you enter Abingdon Town Limits
Wyndale Rd. is 55 mph speed limit. If you keep going north, you will eventually get to a curve where you enter Abingdon Town Limits. The speed limit drops from 55 to 35 right then. As you go around the curve, there is usually a Abingdon cop sitting in a driveway on your left with radar.
