US Highway 501 near After the last/only stoplight in Brookneal
If you are on 501 S going towards South Boston, VA, you will see the only stop light in Brookneal, and will turn right to stay on 501 S. This is considered the "town" of Brookneal and the speed limit is posted at 35 mph. Once you get out of the "town" about 3/4 of a mile you will start descending down a hill and will be able to see the speed limit raised up to 45 mph before you actually start your descension.
It is at the bottom of the hill under an overpass where the officers will be waiting for you to go through their speed trap. Not only are you going down a relatively steep incline, but the speed limit increases as you down the hill, but not during your initial descension.
This is how you will get caught. Even though the 45 mph speed limit is in plain sight and you are descending a hill, the officer will tag you for speeding in a 35 mph zone.
What’s even better is less than a half mile down the road the speed limit is raised all the way up to 55 mph. Take it from me follow the 35 mph until you reach the 45 mph sign even if it means breaking because Brookneal (Campbell County) officers don’t like you questioning their authority and will start asking you questions such as "what have you been drinking?" or "what is that smell in your car?" to scare you and try and get you to concede to their speed trap.
