Cumberland, Virginia Speed Traps
Route 60 at the Community center just before route 45.
In Cumberland, you better do 35 in those school zones even if the lights aren’t flashing because they will give you a ticket anyway.
US 60 at the village of Cumberland
County Deputies patrol the areas at both ends of the village where the speed limit drops from 55 to 45 then to 35. They do not give any allowances for slowing down after entering the lower zones. Once you pass the reduced limit signage you had better be within the limit posted.
State Route 60 near Powhatan Line
State or Local Law Enforcement works this area on a very regular basis, and you will find them parked in the shadows near the County Line Junkyard on the South Side of the highway. Backed into the shadows you won’t see them until they touch the brakes to shift into drive or turn on the light bars after you pass. Know they are there and keep your speed to less than ten over. Powhatan and Cumberland are both VERY rural on this stretch of Route 60 and you are going to see deer along the highway, and maybe even a bear… hit a bear at 70 or 80 mph and your outcome might not be pretty. Stay safe out there.
