Danville, Virginia Speed Traps
Third Avenue between North Main Street and Locust Lane
Police usually park in front of Third Avenue Church. Speed limit is 25 but other drivers tailgate if you go less than 35. They will write anything over 30 mph. For the last year they have been there an average of twice a week.
Most of Arnett Blvd
speed limit is 30, and there’s usually a police car hidden in a driveway or even parked on the street with radar; he gives a ticket for ANYthing over 35.
Rt 58 East of Danville
State Police will definitely ticket for 10 over out on the straight road..Its all about money.
Memorial Drive before Robertson bridge
Driving west on Memorial toward the bridge there is a sudden change from the 40 MPH limit to 25 MPH ,with a police car sitting there just past the sign. There is a construction site way down the road but no warning of a reduced speed limit. There is a sign saying construction ahead but it is so far in advance and no mention of speed reduction to come that it catches lots of people unaware. Even though it’s a new traffic pattern, tickets are given and not warnings. Lots of tickets!
Eastbound on the Danville bypass (58)
Eastbound after the speed changes from 65 to 45 for the industrial intesection there are 2 traps; after you pass the first trap on a blind corner don’t relax and speed up too fast because there is a second trap about a mile farther. A very clever variation ! Also after the slow down there is no sign to notify you when to resume speed either. Not fair.
