Monterey, Virginia Speed Traps
just south of town on U.S. 220
State police and sheriff’s department deputies used to regularly set up in the parking lot of the livestock market just south of town. They had great concealment from both directions. The owner fenced it off and now they sit on the shoulder still just a bit south of town.
There are no speed traps
Looks like someone received a ticket in Highland County, and they are crying over spilled milk.We have only four Virginia State Troopers assigned to the county. That means there are no more than two on duty at anyone time. The county is mountainous and quite rugged,so speeding doesn’t seem to be a real problem….but if you need correcting, you will be written a citation by one of our fine men in blue.

On Route 220 between Monterey and Vanderpool
This is a 55mph 2-lane highway along a scenic valley where the police can hide in places you will never see until it is too late. Also watch out for the 25mph speed limit going through the town of Monterey.
