Newsomes, Virginia Speed Traps

This is a highway that bypasses the town!! The main road through town actually parallels this road. The speed limit is 55 on most of the route. I was so sure that it was still 55 that, when I saw the police car, I didn’t feel the need to cancel my cruise control. The cop wrote me up for doing 55 in a 35 zone. I asked him how far back the sign was and he said about a quarter mile. I should have gone back to look for it, but I didn’t. I sure didn’t see one. I didn’t even see the town! Judging by the other posts, the “actual” speed sign must be there somewhere. While we were stopped, the cop pointed to one of the yellow “suggested” speed signs attached to the crossroad sign. (I didn’t bother to give him a driving lesson) Try to avoid this road in your travels.

Officer (name omitted) likes to sit just beyond the curve coming into Newsoms when you are traveling west on Highway 671, going towwards Boykins. He knows the sun is in your eyes at about 5-5:30 and the speed limit drops from 55 to 45 and then within 100 yards drops to 35 and you round the curve doing fifty slowing down to 45 and get hit with a 15 over…It is a very sneaky tactic…
