Portsmouth, Virginia Speed Traps
I-264 and Victory Blvd Exit
As you come around the curve heading west on I-264, a cop sits facing the oncoming traffic right at the off ramp for victory blvd. You can’t see him until it’s too late, thankfully they run radar full blast, so you can pick them up quite early with a radar detector. Since radar detectors are illegal in VA, the cops are lazy and just run it full blast all the time!
Downtown Tunnel Coming FROM Norfolk to Portsmouth
Not necessarily a ‘speed trap’ but the DOUBLE SOLID lines coming out of the tunnel are NOT TO BE CROSSED when trying to get off on the Effingham/Naval Hospital exit. There is an officer that sits out of sight watching people crossing those solid doubles to get off at that exit last minute. You will get a citation. No ifs ands or buts.
Eastbound I-264 as you come off I-664
Make double-sure you’re doing 55 when you leave 664. A state cop sits on the left and will see you as you’re coming around the curve. He’s not forgiving, he takes no excuses.
Between Portsmouth Blvd and Fredrick exits on I-264
Trooper sits on grassy area near on ramp to Portsmouth Blvd on I-264. If you are coming East to West, unless he is in traffic court, he sits there waiting to issue you a ticket for speeding. He sits behind some brush and when the leaves come out, you cannot see them then bam you’re it. Beware.
State Route 164 After the Cedar Lane Exit
If you’re heading towards the West Norfolk Bridge, Portsmouth police wait on the Cedar Lane on ramp. It’s especially dangerous when you’re a lone car because since they’re on the on ramp, they zoom down to get you.
