Stephens City, Virginia Speed Traps
On 522 Going towards Winchester from Rt. 66
Since the addition of the new Wal-Mart by Tasker Road, cops have been running a lot of radar in the area due to the recent drop in the speed limit from 55 MPH, to 45 MPH, and sometimes even 35 MPH.
Rt 11 and First St. in Middletown VA [faulty traffic light]
Not a speed trap: The only traffic light in Middletown is on the corner of 1st & Main (RT 11). The light has a defective road sensor and will leave you stuck at the light until you backup and approach it again. The light has a no right turn on red. When you treat it as a malfunction and pass through it as you would a stop sign, the cop gives you a ticket. The town and the cops know about the sensor problem but will not correct it….a big money maker !!
The ticket can be dropped in court if the Judge has any common sence.
North end of Rt 11 on curve. (Stephens City)
As noted before heading north out of town there are multiple 25 mph signs, just as you’re heading out of town there is a curve where they sit and run radar. You think you leaving town so you increase your speed and bingo they get you, right as you see the 40 mph sign. Just got done with court, and there were at least 6 people maybe more that got a speeding ticket there. They write ticket under town code so the town gets the money. Hope he at least got a toaster for making his quota, no breaks either no reducing it.
North End: Classic Transit Car Lot
Black unmarked Crown Vic. sits on car lot mainly in the evening hours. This fellow will pull over anyone doing 26 mph. Typically gets 3-5 cars an hour when he’s on duty. The rest of the force seems to be decent.
US Highway Rt. 11 near US Highway 11
See Middletown, VA for another example. Stephen’s City is just north of Middletown, Va on U.S. 11 only the limit is 25 mph and STRICTLY enforced. Again, a big source of revenue for this burg.
