Yorktown, Virginia Speed Traps
US Highway 17 near Near Harwoods Mill Reservoir
State/county troopers will lurk in the median after dark, mostly near the US 17N/VA 134 (Magruder Boulevard) interchange and for about a mile and a half north of the interchange…speed limit is 45 mph on a divided four-lane highway. they mostly focus on drivers coming off 134 at 55 mph and not reducing speed to 45 mph on US-17, although they pull plenty of people traveling southbound. They’re also known for hiding "in the weeds" on the Northwest corner of the stoplight at the Raceway Gas Station…looking for drivers running the red light at the intersection of US-17 and Ella Taylor Drive in York County…trust me—-you won’t see ’em till it’s too late.
State Highway 17 South near Coleman Bridge
State and local Sheriff. The park either in median (look like car in turning lane) or to the right of hwy 17 where you can’t see the car. Looking for drivers accelerating off of the Coleman Bridge headed into York County.
State Highway Route 238 Old Williamsburg Road
They use a false excuse that 238 magically starts at Goosley Road and not when leaving the Historical Park road; which is a cobblestone un marked road, When you leave the Park road you enter a paved, marked in center and has sides marked and curb, just like the rest of 238.
State Route 17 near State Route 238
As a Coast Guardsman (or any other military member) living in TRACEN Yorktown or nearby base, he or she must take special care to obey all traffic laws. He or she must take it beyond the point of going the speed limit; traveling 05 miles per hour under the limit is a better bet of avoiding a ticket. I knew a few members of the lower tier of my chain of command getting pulled over on BICYCLES, then charged with a statute that didn’t even exist on the books (smart kid challenged the officer). Outside of the base, an officer is almost always sitting near the government cage waiting to pull servicemen over (so no, military does NOT recieve a break). Police cannot be avoided; operating a vehicle for recreational purposes should be limited and within what would otherwise be considered undue precaution. The economy in VA in general isn’t the greatest, and much revenue is recieved from traffic tickets.
Route 17 & Victory Blvd. to Route 17 & Lakeside Drive
There’s 3 spots they usually sit at:
1) Coming from intersection of Rte. 17 and Victory Blvd, going North on 17. They sit at the abandoned lot near Richmond Road.
2) Continuing North, at the top of the hill before you go down where the resovior is, on the left at the entrance of the Water Works property.
3) Back in the brush at the light across from the Racetrac Gas Station.
