Colton, Washington Speed Traps
US Highway 195 near City Entrance Sign
Very small town deceptive for posted limit. City police are parked on street. Coming from south a hill blocks visability and the slightest excess over posted limit will warrent a citation. Entrance from north is around a curve with same visibility problem.

Colton is a small farming town of 300-400 people just 17 miles north of Lewiston, Idaho on US 195. They employ one town marshal and he is no hick town cop, he is fully accredited with the Washington State Patrol. (and he is a nice guy) He hasn’t much else to do in his little town but stop speeders. He sits parked right on the side of the main street, sometimes behind another car and when you come up over the rise into Colton he has you. By the time you see him it’s too late. The speed limit is 30 mph and he writes tickets for 40 and above, not really unreasonable, but he is there on a regular basis. I lived in Colton for 5 years right on main street and he parked just up the street almost on a daily basis.
