The Mellen Police are always around and they like to give speeding citations to people who think they dont have to fallow the speed limit. They also like to sit on Main St in the School zone in the morning and afternoon when the children are comming and going to and from school. The Police like to give speeding tickets to people who disregard the safety of children and speed through the school zone. Co GG is also a good area to look out for the Mellen P.D. They like to sit and trap people speeding in the 25mph zone as they speed by the children riding there bikes on the side of this street.
City of Mellen Wisconsin usually on Highway 13, sometimes 77
Mellen is located in a valley, so travelers on Highway 13 going either north or south have to go downhill at some time. Speed limit is 25. Cruiser there almost all of the time as there is little crime in Mellen to occupy the policeman’s time.
Been visiting the area for 15 years, same operation.
North of Mellen, on Hwy 13. Usually near Kunz Rd.
The state trooper in this area likes to patrol Hwy 13 between Mellen and Ashland, but is usually found just north of Kunz Road. He patrols both directions, but I usually see him on Fridays for Northbound traffic and on Sundays for Southbound traffic.
GG Road near An eighth of a mile east of the Logging Company
As you leave the quaint little town of Mellen you will often times see a cop on the top of a hill fairly well hidden. The speed limit seems like it should be 55 because you are leaving town and on a county highway, instead it is 35. As you see that sign you start to slow down only to see a cop a few hundred feet ahead waiting to pull you over and give you a ticket.
