Portage, Wisconsin Speed Traps

The reduced speed limit signs along Dewitt Street (Business 51) coming off the Interstate are poorly marked and go from 65 MPH to 35 MPH within seconds. I was stopped under these circumstances, at bar closing time. The field training officer and his trainee gave me a written warning for the speeding but then asked me if I would mind doing a field sobriety test. I told him I did mind because I don’t drink. I was immediately allowed to leave but clearly they were on a "fishing expedition." The local cops sit all along Business 51 which runs through the entire city. I see cars pulled over all the time along this road.

There are often troopers sitting near bridge construction. after you pass underneath an interchange you will seen the reduced speed limit signs. There is usually an officer sitting in the median, very difficult to see.
