Stoughton, Wisconsin Speed Traps
West-Side Kwik Trip/El Rio Grande
Late Weeknights, unlit Cruiser frequently sits in the parking lot of El Rio Grande, watching for speeding (limit is 25mph), but also running the plates of anybody getting gas or stopping @ Kwik Trip, "fishing" using the excuse of "plates are in plain view" so they can run them for no reason at all.
United States Highway 51 & Kings Lynn Rd
Radar Sign’ is set up opposite of Wal-Mart. Speed limit reduces from 45 to 25 right here. I don’t see officers here very often, but they’ll be further down. Consider yourself duly warned!
Main Street
Coming from the Madison side into Stoughton, watch that you go EXACTLY 25 in the beginings of Main Street (Main street starts at the light where the Walgreens is). Watch for a marked patrol car in the Oslesons True Value right after the McDonalds, the parking lot where Curves For Women and Klinke cleaners, and the parking lot where BS III’s liqour and the Valvoline. This small area (about 1/8 mile long) is popular for speed traps because its a blind corner right after the McDonalds. They do, if at night, have their marking lights on…but the cars are dark blue. They also know if youre speeding if they pass you going the opposite direction, plus they know everyone that lives there. They have 3 patrol cars, and chances are if you see 2 doing somthing else, go on your merry speeding way. If you are pulled over, be cool, they can be EXTREMELY reasonable. I have been pulled over 4 times there in 3 years (I live there) and never once got a ticket…only an oral warning.
