Calgary, Alberta Speed Traps
4th St N.W. just south of McKnight Blvd, north or southbound.
Light-green Ford Windstar van parked amoung other parked cars takes your photo northbound within 2 blks south of fire station on the SE corner of McKnight and 4th where the pavement widens and # of residences diminish. Limit is 50km/h. They nail southbound traffic along the same 2 block stretch as those vehicles speed up to merge before the pavement narrows. Often active as early as 6am, but also during afternoon rush and at other times. Do not exceed 9km/r over the limit.
19th St N.E. between 32nd Ave and McKnight Blvd, northbound and Southbound
Police cruiser is parked behind shrubs and trees along this stretch nabbing motorists approaching from either direction. This is in an industrial park with little traffic between 6 and 8am and not much more later on, so the 50km/h posted limit is ridiculous. Yet, that’s the time they’re most likely to be there, generating revenue like good little soldiers. Take a different route, there are lots of options.
Glemore Trail near 18th Street
Eastbound on Glenmore Trail right under 18th St overpass. They normally hide away slightly after the apex of the turn behind the columns. It will be too late when you see them.
Southland Drive near Tim Hortons
Got me 82 in a 60 they were hiding behind a tree…
Elbow Drive near Sacramento Drive
This trap is in a school zone (30km/hr) north of Sacramento Drive. It’s usually around lunch time and they stand at Southglen Pl.
