Calgary, Alberta Speed Traps
36th St NE, about one km north of McKnight Blvd, northbound
Laser is set up in the driveway of a Calgary city road maintenance depot at various times of the day and night. You’ll see them just after the pavement narrows to one lane in either direction just as you come around the curve— but by that time they’ve already nailed you because most detectors don’t pick up the signal around bends, especially if it’s a laser beam rather than conventional radar. Calgary police use mostly laser and photo radar.
52nd Street near Exit Number 16th Ave. West
Located at exit point off 52nd as your heading west onto 16th Ave exit. Police stand behind lamp post and use hand held radar or laser and pull you over right at apex of exit…Very Dangerous!…Pay attention!
Dalhousie westbound At Dalton Drive
A pair of motorcycles monitor the playground zone (30km/h) several times a week and hide on Dalton with handheld radar/laser guns. Deceptive zone because it is a wide street with a wide boulevard. The playground zone should be replaced with a flashing pedestrian crosswalk.
Center Street near 7 th Avenue
Top of the hill after Center Street Bridge heading North. Cash cow.
Crowchild Trail near Kensington
Going southbound on Crowchild Trail just past McMahon, down the hill where the speedlimit is reduced from 70 to 60, Cops regularily are at the 2nd set of lights nabbing people over 70 or so.
