Newport Beach, California Speed Traps
PCH b/w Dover and Newport Bl
Known as Mariner’s Mile, it is a stretch of PCH filled with upscale hotels, restaurants, and businesses. Posted speed limit varies between 35 and 40. Motorcycle officers will hide along this stretch using LIDAR. I’ve seen as many as 4 work this area at once nabbing their prey.
Road between Newport Pier and Balboa Pier
Motorcycle cops with radar gun parked in a metered parking spot. Performed an instant-on radar on me AFTER I passed him. My radar detector DID NOT go off.
anywhere
While traveling through the city of Newport Beach you should always make the upmost effort to drive the speed limit. Their police force is filled with arrogant cowboys that work in a city that backs them up 100% as they aim to be the "safest city" I would rate them highly aggressive.
Southbound Pacific Coast Highway between Brookhurst St. and Superior Ave
As you travel southbound on PCH past Brookhurst St. leaving Huntington Beach the speed limit is 50 mph. The speed limit abruptly changes to 45 mph right at the Newport Beach city limit (lagoon bridge at the Wedge) Most cars at this time are still traveling at 50-55 mph and both motorcycle and patrol cars will hide at various locations in the 2 mile stretch between the Newport Beach city limit and Superior Ave.
Mac Aurthur Blvd and Bonita Canyon (in between the 73 and PCH)
One or two motorcycle cops will sit on the end of Bonita canyon and jump on anyone going over 55mph on the strech after PCH and since the average speed traveled is probanly around 65-70 the are pretty busy.
