Colorado Springs, Colorado Speed Traps
Austin Bluffs Parkway near Woodman Road
Austin Bluffs is everywhere a 4 lane wide road that has no driveways or business turn-off without a turn lane. Like many streets in Colorado Springs it is drasticly under marked in speed limit at 35 MPH. The Parkway should be marked at probably 45 which is what most people drive it at North of Woodman road. The only place on the many miles of asphalt where it should be marked at 35 to 40 MPH, the city has marked it down to 30 MPH. This stretch is only a few hundred feet long and has a wide sweeping curve. The police sit hidden on this curve only a short distance from where the only sign indicates that the MPH has changed. The 30 MPH sign is close to an intersection where if your paying attention the the intersection and traffic you entirely miss the sign.
Academy Boulevard near Palmer Park Boulevard
This trap is located in the middle of Academy Blvd. between Constitution and Palmer Park. The motorcycle cops sit in the parking lot of the businesses between the north and south bound lanes of Academy doing radar. They like to hide behind cars parked in the lot so you can’t see them at first. They target the southbound Academy traffic and are set up right after the speed limit drops from 45 to 35. Business is good for them here as they have now stepped up radar in this area significantly. They are most heavily here in the morning to late morning hours.
Uintah Street
Anyone who lives in Colorado Springs knows about Uintah by now but I’d thought I’d post it anyway, in honor of Colorado Springs new top ten speed trap status. Uintah Street, between I-25 and Palmer Park is probably the most highly radared area in the US. There are motorcycle police there almost every day hiding in various places, sometimes even on sidewalks of the intersecting roads! There are also sometimes unmarked units working with numerous motorcycle cops. The unmarked unit, a grey Caprice, will sit on the side of the road facing east, clocking cars as they go by. The motorcycles will then descend on their victims up the road. They especially like this road as it’s the main east-west corridor across this town and the speed limit is a crawling 30mph. I was written up once for doing 37mph here. Now that I’ve got a Valentine 1 I haven’t had any problems, but I still see people pulled over here all the time, as in almost daily. 30mph is a joke as most traffic still flows at 40mph, even after all the radar.
Flintridge Road near Vickers Road
All along Flintridge there are often motorcycle cops hidden down the many side streets. The speed limit is very low (30) for a four lane, well travelled road and very hilly — it’s easy to coast to over posted speed limit unless you are constantly pressing on the brakes. They love to hide and get commuters on the way to and from work. I have never received tickets anywhere else in the country (I move a lot) but the 2 I have gotten have both been in Co Spring. Speed trap city.
Tutt Boulevard near Dublin Boulevard
Turning off Dublin (speed 45) on to Tutt, sign is a bout 100 yards down Tutt. Office hides behind large pile of dirt copmletely out of sight. Speed limit is completely unreasonable. Area is uninhabited. Street is 4lane divided street. An obvious speed trap.
