Colorado Springs, Colorado Speed Traps
Briargate Boulevard near Union Boulevard
The speed limit on Briargate Blvd. is unrealistically low (35 mph). Police use patrol cars, unmarked cars and motorcycles, which they park on a side street to monitor traffic with a radar gun. There is a long east-to-west hill in which it is easy to exceed the posted speed limit by just coasting.
Dublin Boulevard near Rangewood Drive
The speed limit on both of these streets is unrealistically low. Police use patrol cars, unmarked cars and motorcycles to patrol. These streets are hilly. Beware when coasting down hills.
Vindicator Drive near Vindicator Drive
The section of Rockrimmon from I-25 to Vindictor and continuing on to Centennial is being blanketed by Motorcycle Radar cops. The are quite leterally hiding behind bushes and fences. On December 29 they were literally blanketing the area during all daylight hours. They are shooting radar almost exclusively on downhill grades in 30 and 35MPH zones. They catch most people after they turn from either Centennial (40MPH zone)onto vindicator (35MPH Zone downhill grade) or from Rockrimmon downhill grade just before the safeway center at Vindicator. Everyone should drive 10MPH below the speed limit in these areas to get the message back to them that we know what they are doing. According to one of the officers I talked with it is all aobut the revenue. He said all you have to do is show up in traffice court and your points will be reduced to half of the original amount and pay the full amount of the ticket and you are on your way. He told me that the city is doing this to calm the residents rage over the speed traps.
