Lawtey, Florida Speed Traps

Staring at County Road 218 in Clay County all the way into Gainesville,Fl going through Lawtey and Starke is a trap between counties that goes for miles. There are billboards posted at the begining of the trap and at the end. Take care they will pull you over for the slightest infraction and go from there.

Of the past 10 trips through Lawtey, I have seen the law 8 times in the same spot. He likes to park under a small shade tree just north of the single traffic light in the town. The officer will stand just inside his car door and aim straight up 301. The lane curves giving the officer the line of sight up to a mile to the north. He can get your speed up to where the initial speed reduces.

Lawtey is right inline with the other speed traps listed on your site – Starke and Waldo! All are lined up on US Highway 301. They are big revenue makers for the towns and AAA was right in their attack on them.

City police are issuing speeding tickets OUTSIDE city limits on north bound traffic. Don’t speed up untill well away from city limits of Lawty

Approx. 1 mile north of the only traffic light on left is the Wagon Wheel Restaraunt and the famed,”Silver Bullet”” sits in the dark on the far northern edge of the empty lot at night and during the day alternates between that spot and the median within the city limits.”
