Oviedo, Florida Speed Traps
Red Bug Lake Road near Slavia Road
Motorcycle sitting up on the median strip. Facing west, shooting the cars coming down the long straight away in the dark of early morning.
State Highway 419 near Sanctuary Drive
Heading east along Chuluota Rd. (State Route 419) from Oviedo towards Chuluota, two lane traffic crosses the Econlochatchee River bridge at a low point. Here’s the point you should be doing 45mph as the local cops are at the crest of the following hill almost out of site behind some low bushes.
Mitchell Hammock Road near Lockwood Boulevard
Coming from Lockwood Boulevard and heading west toward Alafaya Trail, Oviedo PD likes to set up a speed trap near the entrance of Smoker’s Express near the intersection of Mitchell Hammock and Alafaya Trail. They are hard to see because they sit at the bottom of the hill and you don’t know they are there until you start going down the hill. Also, they like to set their Cherokees along the chain link fence coming from Alafaya Trail and heading towawrd Lockwood Boulevard. The speed limit was a ridiculous 40mph back when I was caught and I was doing 50mph. It is now 45mph but still marked “strictly enforced.””

Lockwood Road and Ekana Drive, S of Mitchell Hammock
Oviedo PD likes to sit tucked behind the wall of Ekana Drive off of Lockwood Road, waiting for motorists to exceed the ridiculously low 35 MPH speed limit. Many motorists are fooled by the 4 lane alternative to Alafaya Trail but watch out. Typically they work as a tag team, with one officer serving as radar operator and the other ready to speed after you in his cruiser. Rarely will an Oviedo officer give you a warning so be ready to pay the fine.
Red Bug Road
Don’t let the open road fool you. Late at night traffic lights switch to flashing because of low traffic, but cops are often sitting in parking lots of local buisnesses facing the road. The speed limit is 45 mph, but to keep up with the rest of the traffic drivers must go around 60 mph… Just keep and eye out!
