Sarasota, Florida Speed Traps
Bird Key Drive near Ringling Boulevard
A cop on a motorcycle will sit right at the entrance to the Bird Key gated community, sitting on the side street, and radar gunning everyone as they leave in the morning. The posted speed limit is 25, but it’s a residential area, so it feels like the limit should be 35, and it’s easy to go 40 or more. In short, go at your own pace until you hit the double curve just before the entrance. Then slow down to 25 EXACTLY, all the way to the gate.
Near and around St. Armands Circle
FDOT has illegally posted a 25 MPH zone in the St. Armands area because it doesn’t follow the 85% rule nor the FDOT speed zoning handbook rules. It is a further speed trap in that the city has agreed to pump up the enforcement of this area and target it over other areas.
