Carmel, Indiana Speed Traps
Interstate 465 near Hamilton County Line
Carmel police often set along I-465 at the Marion-Hamilton county line where their jurisdiction begins. This is just past 96th Street east-bound, and about a half mile west of Keystone, west-bound. I’ve seen more west-bound though. They will pull over any random car going more than the posted 55 mph speed limit, doesn’t matter if the car is being passed by others or not. They patrol any time of day; I’ve even seen them out during rush hour when traffic is stop and go. Heavy enforcement does seem to be skewed towards the last week of the month though.
Hazel Dell Parkway near 116th Street
The Carmel City Police like to sit in the median just South of 116th Street on Hazel Dell Parkway as well as a utility driveway on the east side of Hazel Dell across from the gravel pit. The posted speed limit is 40 mph with traffic maintaining speeds of 50-55 mph.
State Highway 431 near 31/431 split
Just as you pass through the southbound 431 choice of the 431/31 split entering Carmel, there is a large bank of trees just in the median. Carmel police officers (often more than one car) regularly hide behind the trees facing northbound to clock southbound traffic. Although I have never gotten a ticket here, I see at least one or two cars pulled over in this stretch every week.
136th Street near Springmill Street
Carmel police sit west of firestation just west of Springmill on 136th street.
Towne Road near 146th Street
County Sheriff sits just north of 146th Street on Towne Road. He parks, facing west, clocking North/South traffic. Mainly during morning rush hour but has made several stops during evening rush hour also.
