Indianapolis, Indiana Speed Traps
Kessler Boulevard near Keystone Avenue
Police park in a nearby school parking lot behind trees. They stand near the road, target cars with the radar gun that are exceeding the school zone limit and will step into the street to stop and pull the cars over. They were observed pulling multiple cars over at the same time.
Kentucky Avenue near McCarty Street
Just north of McCarty street beyond the old warehouse on the east side of Kentucky, multiple officers were spotted with radar guns trying to catch speeders using the cover of some trees.
Interstate 70 East near Post Road
Motorcycle Police. Walked out onto interstate pointing at multiple cars at one time. The speed limit is 55mph. I was going no more than 64ish. Typical speed through there is at least 70. (I drive it everday) I was not sure if he was pointing at me or the car behind me. Since I was unsure I watched in my rearview mirror, he did not pursue me, so I am not exactly sure what his intentions were. I was so shocked that he was attempting to pull over every car that drove by him. I was already going slower than normal because I saw him about 1/4 mile back.
Sherman Drive near Wilderness Trail
Most predominantly catching northbound traffic on Sherman Drive heading towards Hanna Ave. As you come away from Redfern there is sufficient time to get to the posted 35 MPH limit and then you go down a hill. Police sit in the entrance to The Timbers and wait for drivers to not notice that their speed has increased coming down the hill.
Capital Avenue near 13th Street
This is the twin speedtrap of the Illinois St. Ill. street is one way north, Capital is one way south and the next street to the west. The police park on either side of the road and use a battery powered radar gun. The buildings and parked cars provide good cover. They use motorcycles if the weather is nice and cars when it isn’t. The speed limit on Capital drops to 30 from 35 as you enter downtown. Traffic usually moves at 35-45. Never gotten caught in this one but it runs at least twice a week.
