Iowa City, Iowa Speed Traps
No. Dodge St. so. of Governor Street and no of Church St.
As you come down the hill on N. Dodge St. (IA State Rt. 1) headed into Iowa City from the 1st w/b I-80 exit, you pass Governor St. about 2 miles in toward town. This is where Dodge St. turns into a 1 way street going south. You round a curve at Brown St. and about 2 more blocks south the cops will be sitting on either Mann St. or in the east side alley between Mann and Church. You won’t see them until you’re right on top of them. The speed limit is 25 MPH and you’ll be going down hill. Be careful there and the rest of way in Dodge St.. Most all of Iowa City is a ridiculous 25 MPH.
Interstate 380 near W. Melrose Street
One getting off 380 onto Melrose St. toward the U. will find themselves dropping from 70 mph to the offramp & stop sign. Then, turning east there is a quick 35 mph followed by another drop (I think unnecessarily low) to 25 mph. You must be diligent in paying attention to this drop in speed after having been going twice that speed in such a short time frame.

E. Court Street near Seventh Avenue
E. Court Street is the main E/W thoroughfare on the East side of Iowa City. It is grossly undersized for the traffic it must carry, and has an absurdly low 25 mph speed limit. The IC Police uses moving (usually opposing) radar on a daily basis to bust anyone going 30 mph and up.
South Gilbert Street near 6 Bypass
Early in the morning the cops will sit in the city maintenance drive and harvest people driving to work. You can’t see the cop when traveling north until you are caught. In the afternoon they will sit in the parking lot and get traffic going south and have troopers harvesting down the road
Interstate 80 near 1st Avenue
Eastbound: Towards the bottom of the hill, cop sits perpendicular to road in median at the end of the concrete divider. You see the front half of the car before it’s too late.
